We are pleased that you are completing an application for admission to Albion College. We ask that you read the following information carefully before completing the application. As always, call the Office of Admissions at 800/858-6770 or 517/629-0321 if you have any questions.
 
Application Process
The Admissions Committee will review your application thoroughly, and will consider your academic achievement, difficulty of curriculum, standardized test scores, personal statement/essay, letters of recommendation, and extracurricular involvements.
All candidates for admission are expected to be graduates of an accredited high school or preparatory school and have at least 15 academic credits in the following areas: English, mathematics, science, social science and foreign language.
During the admission selection process, the contents of applicant files are held in the strictest confidence. The information that candidates provide will be used only for admissions purposes. Secondary school counselor recommendation forms do not become part of the student's official file upon matriculation at Albion College.
 
Early Decision
Qualified students whose first choice is Albion College may apply under our Early Decision option. Students who choose this option must submit their application and support materials no later than November 15 of their senior year. The Early Decision portion of the Counselor Recommendation must have all required signatures before the application will be reviewed.

Candidates who wish to apply for need-based financial aid need to submit an Albion College Early Estimator form by December 1.

Candidates will be notified of acceptance by December 15. Estimated financial aid awards will be sent out to accepted students by December 20. A $300 non-refundable deposit is due by January 15.
 
Early Action
Students who wish to receive an admission decision before our regular decision candidates may select to apply under early action program. Applications need to be completed by December 1 and notification of an admission decision will be mailed prior to January 1. Students do not have to make a final commitment to Albion until May 1, when the $300 enrollment deposit is required to reserve a place in the class.
 
Regular Decision
Students who apply after December 1 will be considered for Regular Decision. Notification of am admission decision will be made on a regular basis beginning February 1.
All applicants are encouraged to submit their application for admission prior to March 1 as students who apply after this date will be considered for admission on a space-available basis.
After acceptance, a $300 deposit should be submitted to Albion College by May 1 in order to reserve a place in the entering class. The deposit will be refunded if a written request is received by our office before May 1.
 
Personal Statement/Essay
Essays are used to evaluate each candidate's ability to express ideas in a clear, organized manner. Additionally, essays provide balance and consistency in application content, allowing for comparison among applicants, and may serve as insight into an applicant's gifts or talents not evident in the other information provided. Applicants who wish to be considered for departmental scholarships related to creative writing (regardless of anticipated major) must submit an essay in response to one of the three questions provided.
 
Professional Institutes
Students interested in a first-rate liberal arts curriculum coupled with innovative professional education are encouraged to explore Albion's Institutes in environmental science, public policy and service, professional management, pre-medical and healt h and health care studies, honors, and education. The Institutes offer world-class internships and study abroad opportunities, and may include a research project and/or independent study. A multi-million dollar endowment supports each program, including academic scholarships for top applicants. Accordingly, admission into each is highly competitive, and students are encouraged to inquire early about and interview for one or more Institutes and related scholarships.
 
Residence Policy
As a residential college, Albion expects all students, except married students or those residing with their parents, to live and board within the College residence system.
