Application Materials: Required

  • Online Application -

All applicants must submit an online application and required supporting documents. The app fee is $50 for domestic applicants and $90 for international applicants. The fee can be paid using Mastercard, Visa, Discover or American Express.

Applicants must complete an essay as part of the application. The essay should be 250-500 words or two pages maximum. Make sure your essay is complete before uploading because you will not be able to make changes after you submit your application. Essays submitted in other forms will not be accepted. The college essay is your opportunity to add your unique, distinct voice to your application to help the committee get to know you beyond your portfolio or transcripts to show us how you think and stand apart from other applicants. Admissions wants essays that demonstrate an inspired commitment to your interests, including thoughtful insights and readiness for Pratt's program. Please respond to the following prompt:

    All Programs (Except Construction Management)

Write about a piece of work (visual art, musical performance, piece of writing, architecture, or design) that has influenced you and describe the impact it has had on your perspective OR write about a part of your work and the impact of creating the work has had on you. The essay should be 250-500 words. Ensure your essay is complete before uploading because you cannot make changes after you submit your application.

    Construction Management Only

Write about a construction project (building, home, stadium, structure, resort, or environment) or a piece of art or design that has inspired you. Describe the impact it has had on your decision to study Construction

  • Transcripts -

If you have earned less than 48 credits in college/university prior to enrollment at Pratt, or if your college cumulative GPA is less than a 3.0, we require you to submit a copy of high school transcript with the application.

Applicants must submit unofficial copies of all college/university transcripts with their application. Unofficial transcripts must contain the following information: applicant's name, school name, dates of attendance, course names, credit hours, and grades earned. We encourage you to include in-progress coursework if applicable. Official transcripts will be required upon acceptance to Pratt and you may choose to order those before receiving your admissions decision in order to avoid delays.

For applicants who attended an international college/university: If the grading and/or credit system of the school(s) attended differs from the United States educational system, you must submit a course-by-course evaluation of your transcript(s). The evaluation service must be a NACES.org member. If you are not sure if you will require an evaluation, please email an English language copy of your transcript to transadm@pratt.edu for review. Pratt reserves the right to request an evaluation at any point in the admissions process if needed.

  • Portfolio -

Portfolios must be submitted online via https://pratt.slideroom.com. All majors are required to submit a visual or writing portfolio, with the exception of Construction Management. Transfer students should submit between 15-45 images. Any work completed in a college/university course must be labeled with course title and number. More detailed information on portfolio requirements can be found here.

  • English Language Proficiency Scores -

Any applicant for whom English is a second language must submit either a TOEFL, TOEFL ITP Plus, IELTS, Pearson, ACT or SAT test score. Pratt recommends that students who submit a TOEFL test also submit an SAT or ACT score if they have one, but it is not required. English language test scores may be waived upon the discretion of the admissions office based on certain criteria. Waivers are issued after all other application materials have been received so we can determine your eligibility.

  • Letter of Recommendation -

Two letters of recommendation are required; one from a teacher, and the other from either a teacher, counselor, or employer with the ability to assess your preparedness for undergraduate study. If you have not attended high school for three or more years, you may have your present or former supervisor provide recommendations.

We ask for letters to be submitted through the Pratt application for transfer applicants. You will need the email addresses of your recommenders. A request will be sent to them through the online application. We recommend emailing them first to let them know they will receive an email.

Note, however, that we will accept recommendation letters by email, mail, fax, or through Naviance/Parchment directly from the recommender as well if your recommenders are having difficulty submitting them through the online application. Only applicants who have submitted recommendation letters through the online application will be able to track and see if the letters have been received through the application console. Those who do not submit the letter through the application will not be able to check and see if letters have been received.
