Undergraduate Application Instructions

Do Not Use this Application if You are a:

  • Study Abroad Applicants. If you are interested in enrolling at AUC as a visiting student and will enroll in courses with the intent of transferring the credits earned at AUC to your home University, use the Study Abroad Application.
  • ALI Applicant. If you are interested in enrolling in AUC's Arabic Language Institute, use the ALI Application.
  • Graduate Degree Applicant. If you are interested in obtaining an advanced degree, use the Graduate Application.
  • Readmission Student. If you were previously enrolled at the University, contact the Office of Admission in Cairo for the Readmission application.

Completing the Application-Question by Question.

Refer to these instructions when completing the application. (In order to do this, it is recommended that you open a new browser window in which to work on the application.)

Biographical Information

Name. Enter your name as it appears on your birth certificate or passport. If you changed your family name, enter your previous name in the space provided.

Citizenship. Select your country of citizenship by pressing the "Choose Country" button and the country will automatically appear on the application. If a dual national, repeat this process for your second country of citizenship.

National ID or SSN. Enter your National Identification or Social Security Number.

Gender. Select the appropriate button.

Marital Status. Make the appropriate selection by using the pull-down menu.

Birth Date. Enter your date of birth (Month, Day, Year).

Birth Country. Select the name of the country in which you born.

Address Information

Enter your current or local address. Use the appropriate lines for address information. For example, if your city is divided into districts, enter the district in which you live. If your city is not divided into districts, then leave the line for district blank. Include country and city or area codes when entering your telephone and fax numbers. If your local address is temporary, indicate when you no longer will be able to receive mail there. If you have a permanent address in addition to a current or local address, enter it in the spaces provided. If you do not have a second address, leave the permanent address section blank.

Parent Information

Specify if your parents work in Egypt or Abroad If your parents are alumni of AUC, and/or currently employed by the University, check the applicable box(es).

Name. Write down the name of that parent. Include the year of graduation, if you checked the alumni box, and/or the name of the department at which your parent work.

US Income Taxes

If you are subject to US income tax, but you do not claim yourself as a dependent you should provide the Taxpayer ID of the person who claims you. If that person is different from your parent, then you should write down his/her name, address, telephone and e-mail address.

Name the person who is paying for educational expenses at AUC. If it is someone other than your parent, write down their address, telephone number and e-mail address, otherwise, leave blank.

Admission Information

Application term. Select the academic term that you wish to begin your studies at AUC from the choices provided. Please note that degree-seeking students may not begin their studies during the summer term.

Application Category. Make the appropriate selection from those provided.

  • Degree-seeking Applicant. An applicant who is seeking to earn an undergraduate degree from AUC.
  • Auditor. An applicant who wish to attend individual classes without credit.

Anticipated Major. Enter you choice for an academic major. If you are undecided, leave the space blank. Please note that the only major that you can enter directly from secondary school is engineering. Therefore, if engineering is your intended major at AUC, it is mandatory to indicate so on the application. Candidates for all other majors are initially admitted as undecided students.

School/University Information

Prior AUC experience. Indicate if you have previously applied for admission to (or enrolled at) AUC by making the appropriate selections. If you have applied/enrolled, indicate the type of application completed/program enrolled at, as well as your AUC applicant identification number in the space provided.

Secondary School. Provide information about the secondary schooling. Include the name and location of the school, as well as the months and years of enrollment. Enter the primary language of instruction spoken in the classes you have attended. Enter the name of the graduation certificate, and the date on which you completed (or will complete) the program. If your Secondary School Certificate is a Thanaweya Amma, please indicate whether the emphasis is math, science or arts.

College/University/Post Secondary School. If you have been or are currently enrolled in any post-secondary school, complete this section. Include the name and location of the school, as well as the months and years of enrollment. Enter your classification (first year, freshman, etc.) and the primary language of instruction spoken in the classes you have attended. Enter your major or focus of study. Enter the number of credit hours you have completed, and check if the institution operated on a semester or quarter hour basis.

Important. If you have ever been on probation or suspended from any college or university, you must answer yes to this question and submit an explanation in the space provided. If the reason for probation or suspension was other than academic, the institution's dean of students much also submit a letter of explanation. Your application is incomplete without this information. If you fail to report all secondary and post-secondary (including college, university and technical institute) coursework, you are subject to disciplinary action, including expulsion, and possible loss of credit for subsequent work taken at AUC.

Employment Information

Please account for all periods of employment. Indicate the name of company or organization in which you were employed as well as the city, state or region, and country in which it is located. Enter your position, the beginning and ending dates of your employment and if you are still employed, so indicate.

Health Information

Indicate if you have ever been seriously ill (including but not limited to being hospitalized for any reason) by checking the appropriate box. If you answer yes, explain the cause, treatment, and outcome in detail.

Additional Information

Completion of the questions in this section is voluntary. You response will have no effect whatsoever on the status of your application. By completing these optional questions, you enable us to better understand and serve you and the other admission applicants to the University.

Pledge(s)

You must affirm and date this statement by selecting "Yes" and entering the date. In addition, if you are under the age of 21 (18 in the United States), one of your parents or your legal guardian must also affirm this statement. Without all required pledges, your application is not complete and will not be processed. The University reserves the right to withdraw your application with no additional notification if it is not complete by the deadline. All materials submitted become the property of the University. By your pledge(s), you certify that the information you have provided about your academic and personal history is accurate and complete. Failure to disclose any required information could result in your denial of admission or retroactive withdrawal from the University without refund or course credits. By selecting "Yes" in this section, you grant AUC permission to obtain and review as needed all academic and disciplinary record and to contact all individuals who provide references in support of your application to The American University in Cairo.

Parent/Guardian Contact Information

All applicants are required to complete the Parent/Guardian contact form, providing information about the business of both parents where available.

Student Name. Enter your name as it appears on your birth certificate or on your passport.

Father's Name. Enter your father's full name in the space provided. Occupation. Write down your father's occupation or his business title.

Name of Company. Enter the name of the company at which your father is currently employed.

Business Address. Enter the work address of your father. Use the appropriate lines for address information and enter the email address as well as the mobile number where applicable.

If your father is an AUC alumni, please indicate so.

Mother's Name. Enter your mother's full name in the space provided.

Occupation. Write down your mother's occupation or her business title.

Name of Company. Enter the name of the company at which your mother is currently employed.

Business Address. Enter the work address of your mother. Use the appropriate lines for address information and enter the email address as well as the mobile number where applicable.

If your mother is an AUC alumni, please indicate so.

If you have any brothers or sisters currently enrolled at AUC, please indicate.
