Application Deadlines:

November 15: Early Decision
Notification: Rolling, within 3 weeks of date completed application is received, beginning October 1.

January 10: Priority Deadline for regular freshman admissions; final deadline for Fellows program and scholarship competition
Students who wish to be considered for Fellows programs and scholarships must submit their freshman application and the separate Fellows Program application by January 10. You may obtain the Fellows application online or call the admissions office to request a copy. All freshmen applications submitted after this date will be considered on a space available basis.

Notification: Rolling basis, within 4-8 weeks of the date a completed application is received, beginning October 1.

Admissions Procedures:
Your application cannot be processed until the following documents have been submitted. The completed application is confidential and will become the property of Elon University.

A completed application includes:

  • completed application including required personal statement and character statement with nonrefundable $35 application fee (paid online via secure server upon submission of online application)
  • official high school transcript
    (to be submitted with Counselor Evaluation form)
  • Counselor Evaluation Form
    Give the Counselor Evaluation Form to your guidance counselor to be submitted with your high school transcript and a list of courses you are currently taking.
    Please note: Personal recommendations are not required for admission.
  • SAT, ACT or TOEFL scores
    Arrange for SAT or ACT score reports to be sent to Elon University. Elon's code for SATs (CEEB code) is 5183; for ACT, it is 3096. Elon combines your best math and best verbal scores. Be sure to send us scores from all tests taken.
  • Transfer Applicants must submit a Dean's Evaluation Form, which may be obtained from the Admissions Office by calling (800) 334-8448.
  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) In addition to SAT or ACT scores, the TOEFL is considered as a part of the admissions decision for international students, unless English is a student's native language or the language of instruction. You may receive an application form from the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate or by visiting TOEFL's web site, www.toefl.org

For International Students Only

Your application must also include an official certified English translation of your complete academic records documenting your last four years of secondary school studies, including mark sheets and examination certificates earned.

Documentation of Financial Resources

Since Elon University cannot provide need-based financial assistance for international students, the student must submit documentation that sufficient financial resources are available from family or outside sources for at least one year of study at Elon. Upon notification of admission, you will receive a Certificate of Financial Responsibility (CFR) which must be completed and returned along with a U.S. $300 enrollment deposit before an I-20 will be issued.


Admissions Policy
Admission to Elon is competitive. Approximately 7,000 applications are received for the 1,200 available openings in the freshman class.

The most important factor in the admissions decision are the academic record including the courses taken, the grades attained and class standing, followed by SAT or ACT scores. Other factors which may be considered include leadership potential, extracurricular and service-related activities, special talent, relationship with the university and ability to contribute positively to the campus community. A campus visit is highly recommended and individual interviews may be scheduled, if desired. However, interview evaluations are not a factor in the admissions decision.

Applicants are encouraged to pursue a rigorous program of study including the following distribution of courses:

(Students who have not completed at least two units in one foreign language must complete a 101-level foreign language course at Elon.)

Early Decision Plan
Application Deadline: November 15
Students whose first choice is Elon University are encouraged to apply Early Decision. There are several advantages to being accepted under the Early Decision Plan:

  • notification of the admissions decision within three weeks of the receipt of the completed application, beginning October 1
  • the opportunity to attend the first Spring Orientation Weekend
  • priority status for housing and registration
  • an early financial aid estimate
The Early Decision Agreement is a binding agreement that a student will enroll at Elon if accepted. Early Decision students who are accepted agree to withdraw applications from all other colleges and submit a nonrefundable US$300 deposit to Elon by January 15. You must complete the Early Decision Agreement on the application and check the Early Decision box.

Presidential Scholarships
No separate application required.
Presidential Scholarships of $1,000 - $3,500 annually are awarded based on information submitted in the admissions application. Notification of a Presidential award is received acceptance.

Fellows Scholarships
Fellows Application Deadline: January 10
A limited number of additional scholarships ranging in value from $1,000 to $6,000 annually are available through the Elon University Fellows programs, and a separate application is required. For additional information about the programs, contact the Office of Admissions. You should also complete your freshman application on or before the January 10 priority deadline in order to be considered for Fellows programs. However, you do not need to wait to be accepted to Elon to submit a Fellows program application.

The Leon and Lorraine Watson North Carolina Scholarship Program
Watson Application Deadline: February 1
Eight Watson Scholarships are awarded annually to North Carolina students who have strong academic records and high financial need. Scholarship awards are $5,000 which, when combined with other grants and loans, may total up to the full cost of tuition, fees, room and board, plus a one-time grant of up to $3,000 to fund a study/travel experience, A special Watson Scholarship application is required and must be submitted by February 1. Contact the Office of Admissions.

Financial Aid Information
Elon requires the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the CSS Profile, and the Elon University Financial Aid Application for applicants who wish to receive some form of need-based financial aid.

You do not need to wait to be accepted to apply for financial aid. The FAFSA and the CSS Profile forms should be completed and mailed by February 15 in order to meet Elon's priority deadline of March 15 for completed financial aid applications.
The FAFSA and the registration form for the CSS Profile may be obtained from high school guidance offices, the Elon University Office of Financial Planning or through links on the Elon Web site www.elon.edu.
