Application for Admission to The School of Graduate Studies

Thank you for your interest in The School of Graduate Studies at the Fashion Institute of Technology!

This page is designed to serve as a resource as you complete your application for admission.

You are welcome to start working on an application at any computer where you have access to the internet. You can either complete the application and submit it in one sitting, or save your work and continue it at a later time.

Application Requirements & Timeline

Applications for admission may be submitted as early as November 1.

Note: The only deadline for the MPS in Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing & Management program is March 15.

Programs vary in their willingness to accept applications after March 15, so you are encouraged to submit your application early. The School of Graduate Studies does not offer spring admission. If you are applying for the priority deadline, you may review our application timeline by visiting our application requirements and timeline page.

Candidates seeking admission to programs within the School of Graduate Studies must submit:

  • Online application with non-refundable application fee
  • Official transcripts of all college-level work
  • 2-3 letters of recommendation
  • Resume/CV
  • Essays/Written Statements
  • Evidence of English language proficiency (international applicants)
  • Portfolio (Exhibition and Experience Design, Fashion Design, and Illustration)
  • Recorded Interview (Art Market Studies, Exhibition and Experience Design, Fashion Design, and Illustration)

Applications will not be reviewed until all necessary elements are received. Please review our Admission Requirements page to verify the requirements for your respective program. Submitting Your Application

Check your work carefully. When you are satisfied and are ready to submit your application, click the submit button at the bottom of the last page to save your answers in their final form. VISA, Mastercard, or American Express card are accepted as payment for the $100 application fee.

Before submitting, we are here to answer any questions about the process or timeline by which your application may receive a decision. Please do not hesitate to contact us at gradadmissions@fitnyc.edu. After submitting, you will not be able to modify your application for any reason with the exception of your recommenders.

You can check your application status on your personal activity page after creating your online account.

The Office of Graduate Admissions cannot provide assistance with troubleshooting any problems regarding the application or the payment website. You can contact CollegeNET, our application provider by using the "Contact our Help Desk" button on the bottom left of each page.

English Language Exams

TOEFL scores may be submitted in paper or electronically from Educational Testing Service to institution code 2257, department 99.

IELTS scores may be submitted in paper or electronically from the testing agency to the Fashion Institute of Technology - School of Graduate Studies.

Duolingo Exams may be submitted electronically to FIT-Undergraduate Admissions.

PTE exams may be submitted electronically using the institution code 2257.

It is strongly recommended that official transcripts (US institutions only) be sent electronically. If your school offers electronic delivery, transcripts can be sent to: gradadmissions@fitnyc.edu. If ordering transcripts from a predetermined list of schools, make sure to choose the option for the "FIT - School of Graduate Studies". Transcripts sent to "FIT" or "SUNY FIT" may not reach the Graduate Admissions Office.

Recorded Interview

Upon initial review of your application, all candidates applying for the Art Market Studies, Exhibition and Experience Design, Fashion Design, and Illustration programs will be sent a link to submit a brief recorded interview. Applicants should be prepared to take part in a follow up live interview with their academic department upon request.

Portfolio Submission

Our Illustration, Fashion Design, and Exhibition & Experience Design programs require submission of an online portfolio in SlideRoom. To review the portfolio requirements for your program, please visit our Portfolio Requirements page.

You should plan to have your portfolio ready around the same time you submit your online application for admission. When you submit your online application for admission, you will receive a separate email within 5 business days with instructions on how to submit your online portfolio.

Financial Aid

Graduate students at FIT are eligible for federal financial aid programs administered by the Office of Financial Aid. To maximize your eligibility for aid, you are encouraged to file your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before the priority deadline posted on the Financial Aid website. This deadline may occur prior to the time in which you plan to submit your application for admission.

International students are not eligible for federal financial aid, but may be eligible for private educational loans.
