What happens to your web application?
Once you submit the web application, you will receive an online confirmation that the application has been sent to Holy Cross.
The admissions office will notify Regular Decision students of missing credentials beginning in early February. Admissions decisions will be mailed during the first week of April.
The admissions office will notify Early Decision applicants of missing credentials within 4 weeks of receipt of the application. Once all required information is received, including the Early Decision Commitment Form, the admissions committee will make decisions on a rolling basis within 3-4 weeks of the application being complete.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
on completing the application:
SCHOOL REPORT
The Counselor Evaluation sheet and the Mid-Year Report form should be given to your college counselor after you have filled in the top three lines.
TEACHER EVALUATION
The Teacher Evaluation sheet should be given to a faculty member of your choice who has instructed you in an academic course. Please fill in the top three lines before taking it to the teacher. We also recommend that you provide the teacher with a stamped envelope addressed to the Holy Cross Admissions Office in order to facilitate the return of the form.
STANDARDIZED TESTS
The Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT I) or the American College Test (ACT) is required of all candidates for admission to Holy Cross. You must have the results sent to Holy Cross directly from the appropriate testing service. Failure to do so may delay the decision on your application. The College B o a rd code number is 3282. The American College Testing Program code number is 1810.
Three SAT II Subject Tests must also be submitted. The Writing Test is required of all applicants. Students wishing to satisfy the Foreign Language requirement should take the appropriate Subject Test. Other tests may be of your own choosing, preferably in subjects you plan to study at Holy Cross. The SAT or ACT and SAT II Subject Tests may be taken on any testing date that is convenient and appropriate for you, but not later than December of your senior year.
IF ENGLISH IS NOT THE PRIMARY LANGUAGE SPOKEN AT HOME:
The official report of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of all applicants who are not native speakers of English. If you are such a student, please ensure that the Educational Testing Service sends Holy Cross an official report of your score. Non-native speakers of English will not be considered for admission without an official TOEFL result.
ACADEMIC CONCENTRATION (Information regarding Biology, Accounting, and Pre-Med Program)
We do not expect students to know their college major this early. In fact, Holy Cross students may remain undeclared until the end of their sophomore year. However, because Holy Cross limits the number of students accepted into the Accounting and Biology majors, as well as the Pre medical sequence, candidates interested in any of these are a s should indicate this preference on their application. Students are evaluated first for admission to Holy Cross and later for approval to specific majors. Requesting Biology, Accounting, or Premed does not jeopardize your chances for admission to Holy Cross.
EARLY DECISION PROGRAM
To superior students who have selected Holy Cross as their first choice, the College offers an Early Decision Program. The Committee assumes that all students who apply under this Program will accept an offer of admission, provided it includes adequate financial aid if such is needed. Early Decision candidates may file applications for regular admission to other colleges, but upon notice of acceptance to Holy Cross these applications must be withdrawn immediately, and a validating nonrefundable tuition deposit of $300.00 be submitted. Early Decision candidates should apply by December 15. The Early Decision applicant must have taken all required College Board examinations. A personal interview is recommended. (Appointments should be arranged well in advance.) Notification of a decision will be made three to four weeks after all required credentials, including the early decision commitment forms, are received, beginning a round December 10. We suggest you retain this information for your records.
Early Decision candidates who wish to be considered for financial assistance should file a College Scholarship Service (CSS) PROFILE Registration form in September and complete the PROFILE Application soon after it is sent by CSS so that all information is in the hands of the College in time for notification shortly after admissions decisions. PROFILE Registration forms are available in secondary schools, the Admissions Office, and the Financial Aid Office. Should the Committee be unable to grant acceptance, the application either will be denied and receive no further consideration, or will be deferred until regular admission. The candidate must then have an official transcript of 7th semester grades sent to Holy Cross.
SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIALS
Any supplementary information that may assist the Admissions Committee in its assessment of a student is most welcome. Students interested in studying visual arts are encouraged to submit 10 to 20 images of their work either in slide form (please include a slide list) or on disk. Students are also encouraged to include a statement about their strengths and their interest in the visual arts. Musical tapes should clearly identify the instrument played or the part sung by the candidate. Dance or theatre videos should clearly identify the role performed by the candidate.
ALUMNI INTERVIEWS
Local alumni interviews are available in most metropolitan areas for students unable to schedule an on-campus interview. Requests for an alumni interview must be indicated on the application and the application should be submitted no later than December 31 in order to provide adequate time for scheduling.
FINANCIAL AID
The financial aid program at Holy Cross includes need-based scholarship assistance as well as Federal Title IV student financial aid including Perkins Loans, Work Study, Stafford Loans, Pell Grants, and Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants. A student may receive aid from any one of these sources or in any combination. Need for assistance is determined by the Financial Aid staff, using our Holy Cross Institutional Methodology formula.
To apply for assistance, you need only indicate in the appropriate space on the admissions application that you would like to be considered for financial aid. There is no separate Holy Cross application for financial aid. In addition, a College Scholarship Service PROFILE Registration form must be filed after September 22 and preferably not later than January 1. The PROFILE Application must be completed and filed no later than February 1 to receive priority consideration for College-based assistance. Holy Cross requires all students who apply for financial assistance to also file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as actual 2000 parent and student income taxes are final and the FAFSA can be completed with accurate 2000 family income data. This would ordinarily be on or before April 15. All PROFILE and FAFSA documents should be marked to indicate that Holy Cross will be sent a copy of the report.
