General Information

EVERY APPLICANT MUST PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING
|
- Application for Admission and Financial Aid.
- $25.00 Admission Fee. This is a one-time, non-refundable fee.
- A copy of driver’s license and Social Security card.
|
|
TYPES OF APPLICANTS AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
|
Traditional Freshmen Applicants who will enter the fall
semester of the same year in which they graduated from high
school. May have from 0 to 11 hours of college work.
Additional Requirements:
- Official high school transcript submitted by your high school
indicating which curriculum you are taking. (This is needed to be
considered for the TEXAS Grant Program.) Upon the student’s
graduation from high school, the university will require an
official final transcript.
- Official copies of ACT or SAT scores mailed from the ACT/SAT
center. ACT phone # is (319) 337-1313, HPU college code is 4102.
SAT phone # is (609) 771-7600, HPU college code is 6278.
- If you are a full-time student, residing in a residence hall
is required for six semesters (unless you reside with immediate
family in the Brownwood area or until 22 years of age). A Housing
Contract and a $100.00 room deposit must be submitted to the
Office of Student Life in order to reserve a room. Questions
regarding housing should be directed to the Office of Student
Life at (915) 649-8017. Housing information will be mailed to the
student upon acceptance to the university.

Non-Traditional Freshmen Applicants who are not entering
the fall semester of the same year in which they graduated from
high school, with less than 12 semester hours of college work.
Additional Requirements:
- Official final high school transcript submitted by high
school or official GED scores, if applicable.
- Official copies of transcripts from ALL colleges previously
attended (if college work was taken).
- See #3 above.
- Official copies of ACT or SAT scores (if available).

Transfer Students Applicants with 12 or more college hours
without a degree earned, but with the intent to pursue a degree
at Howard Payne University.
Additional Requirements:
- Official copies of transcripts from ALL colleges previously
attended.
- See #3 above. A one-semester residence credit will be awarded
for every 15 hours being transferred.

Transient Students Applicants who do not intend to pursue
a degree from Howard Payne University, but wish to transfer hours
to another college that they attend. (Transient students are
usually here for summer school or for only one semester.)
Additional Requirements:
- Letter or transcript that shows good standing at other college.

|
Former HPU Students Any student who has previously attended HPU.
Additional Requirements:
- Official copies of any and all transcripts from colleges
attended since last attending Howard Payne University.
|
|
Special Those applicants who already have a baccalaureate
degree or its equivalent from a regionally accredited college or
university.
Additional Requirements:
- Official copy of the transcript from the university that
issued the degree.
|
|
Audit Taking a class without receiving credit. There are
no additional requirements -- only the application and admission
fee are required.
|
|
Early Admission Students Applicants who have successfully
completed their Junior year in high school and who wish to take 7
or less college hours per semester.
Additional Requirements:
- Completed Early Admission Forms (available in the Office of
Enrollment Services) and must meet all of the requirements on the
form.

GENERAL ADMISSION POLICY
|
Students who score 19 or better on the Enhanced ACT or 910 or
above on the SAT I, and maintain an 80% average or better
throughout high school, and meet all other admissions
requirements are eligible for unconditional admission. Students
whose scores do not fall within these parameters may be
considered for admission on an individual basis.
All transfer students must submit academic records of all work
from every college attended. The transfer student’s admission
status will be determined by those records.

FINANCIAL AID MATERIALS AND INSTRUCTIONS
|
THE PRIORITY DATE FOR FINANCIAL AID AWARDS IS MARCH 15.
Students who have been admitted to the university and whose
financial aid file is complete by the priority award date will be
given priority in financial aid packaging. Applications may be
filed later and awards will be based on available funds.
Applicants for federal or state financial aid or university
scholarships to be applied at Howard Payne University must be
enrolled or officially accepted in a degree-granting or
certificate program at HPU. Students who are not enrolled in a
degree or certificate program at HPU are not eligible for any
financial aid at HPU.
Students must maintain satisfactory progress in order to
participate in the federal and state programs of financial aid.
Please refer to the Howard Payne University catalog for
information on the satisfactory progress requirements. You must
re-apply for financial aid each academic year.

FAFSA All applicants (except those applying for only
scholarships and parent loans) must complete the Free Application
for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA may be submitted any
time after January 1. A FAFSA may be submitted the following
ways:

This site provides the fastest way to apply. Be sure to print,
sign and mail the signature page to the federal processing
center.
Paper FAFSA
This form is available from the HPU Office of Financial Aid, your
high school counselor and the public library.
Renewal application
A student who applied for financial aid the previous year using a
paper FAFSA will receive a paper Renewal FAFSA. A student who
filed an application via the Web will be mailed instructions and
an Electronic Access code (EAC) for use with Renewal FAFSA on the
Web.
Important: Howard Payne University’s Federal School
Code 003575 should be listed in the appropriate section of
the FAFSA. Using this code will allow HPU to access the results
of your FAFSA electronically.
UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES
If you or your family have unusual circumstances that may affect
your student financial aid application, please attach an
explanation page to this application.
