Transfer Information for International Students

International transfer students seeking credit for academic courses taken from non-U.S. based colleges and universities must obtain a course-by-course evaluation of foreign transcripts from a U.S.-based credential evaluation service. The application form for the valuation of foreign educational credentials may be obtained by either writing to those services or through James Madison University's Office of International Admission and Enrollment Services. The university will accept evaluations from other credential evaluation services with the approval of the Office of International Admissions and Enrollment Services.

Official transcripts must be mailed to both JMU's office of International Admission and Enrollment Services and to the credential evaluation service. When applying, you should indicate which evaluation service you have selected to do the evaluation. The prospective student will be required to pay the cost associated with obtaining the evaluation. The cost of a course-by-course evaluation is approximately U.S. $100 to $150.

James Madison University does not necessarily endorse Educational Credential Evaluators Inc., Global Credential Evaluators or World Education Services Inc. Obtaining an external evaluation service does not necessarily ensure acceptance or awarding of credit by James Madison University or credit reflected on the evaluation. However, it has been the experience of the Office of International Admission and Enrollment Services that the university generally honors the assessment of credit to be awarded by these services.
