Application for Admission to Graduate Degree Program

Louisiana State University welcomes your interest in graduate study. Before completing this application, please consult the LSU General Catalog or the Graduate Bulletin for a description of basic Admission requirements, required fees, degree offerings, and courses.

Note: This application is not used for admission to a non-degree program. If you are seeking admission as a non-degree student, please contact the Office of Graduate Admissions for the proper form.

Application Procedures

Applications will not be processed until all required materials, including the appropriate application fee, have been submitted. All application materials become the property of the University and cannot be returned.

  1. The completed Application for Admission to Graduate Degree Program.
  2. The required application fee and any applicable late fee.
  3. Transcripts:
    • One set of official transcripts of all previous college or university work from each institution attended. Transfer credit posted on the records of other institutions is not accepted in lieu of transcripts from the original institution(s). If the college or university will supply you with an official transcript in a sealed and signed envelope, you are to obtain the transcript in that manner and submit it unopened. If the college or university will not send official transcripts to a student, please request that a transcript be sent to the Graduate School at the above address. Transcripts from LSU, Baton Rouge, need not be submitted.
    • International Applicants: Include degree statements and official English translation of each foreign document.
  4. Appropriate test scores sent directly by the Educational Testing Service.

Test Scores

One or more of the following official test score reports must be sent directly from the testing agency to the Graduate School at the address shown above. Test scores you report yourself on the Application for Admission form, though considered unofficial, can speed the processing of your application for admission and for assistantship or fellowship consideration.

  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test Required for all applicants for the Master of Fine Arts (studio art and theatre), Master of Music, and programs in business administration. Applicants to the Department of Economics must submit GRE scores.
  • Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) Required for all applicants to programs in business administration except economics.
  • NOTE - The Department of Information Systems & Decision Sciences and the Public Administration Program will accept either the GRE or GMAT scores
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Required for international applicants from a country other than the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Belize, or certain Caribbean Islands. If you have a degree from a U.S. college or university or a degree from any of the listed countries, you are exempt from this requirement. A TOEFL score of 213 on the computer-based test or 550 on the paper-based test is required for admission.

Test scores should be sent directly to LSU by Educational Testing Service. Please write to the
Educational Testing Service, Princeton, New Jersey 08541-6000. Or call (609) 771-7670 for information for information about sending official score reports. LSU's code is R-6373-5. International applicants cannot be admitted provisionally if test scores have not been received.

Application Fees, Priority Dates, & Deadlines

Applications can be sent at any time, but if you wish to receive full consideration for all scholarships, assistantships, and fellowships, fall semester applications must be received by the January 25 priority date. Applications received after that date can be considered for any financial assistance that remains.
Note: Most programs require that applications to be submitted much earlier than the graduate deadlines below, especially for financial aid consideration. Contact the Graduate Advisor in your program for additional information regarding departmental deadlines.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Applications will not be accepted ONLINE after the above deadline. Prospective students must submit the paper version of the application.

The application fee is non-refundable and cannot be waived or deferred. International students should submit application materials at least 90 days prior to the beginning of the semester to provide time for LSU personnel to process the applications and for students to obtain visas and arrange transportation.
Applications completed using the electronic application system must be both submitted and paid on-line using the credit card or check routing number option. Forms printed from the electronic application system are not considered a formal application and will not be processed.
