Application Instructions for Undergraduate Application
Please read before completing your application.
When to Apply
- Freshmen: December 1 for scholarship consideration; February
15 for all other applications.
- Transfer Students: By November 15 for the spring semester; by April 15 for the fall semester.
How to Apply
Please read the admission requirements carefully. All applicants
should complete and submit the
online application along with a $45 application fee, which must
be paid online via secure server at the time your application is submitted.
The application fee is neither refundable nor deferrable for a future
semester of entrance. Candidates for freshman admission should present
the High
School Transcript and Recommendation
Supplement to their guidance officer for completion. Applications
are valid only for the particular semester for which you apply.
Freshman Applicant Responsibility
Applicants for freshman admission must make arrangements with
their guidance counselor to have official transcripts recording grades
nine through 11 sent directly to the Office of Admissions. Additional
transcripts are also required for final grades.
The High
School Transcript and Recommendation Supplement is provided
to assist the applicant with this requirement. Applicants
must provide the Office of Admissions with SAT I scores, including
the writing portion, through the Educational Testing Service in
Princeton, N.J. (Towson's code number is 5404). ACT scores, including
the writing portion, may be substituted for the SAT I. Test scores appearing
on high school transcripts are not considered official.
Transfer Applicant Responsibility
Applicants for transfer admission must contact the registrar's
office at each transfer institution attended (even if credits
were not earned) and request that their official records to be sent directly
to the Office of Admissions. Your application will
not be complete until we receive these records. We do not accept
fax transmissions. Individual transcripts from all institutions are required to complete
the application even if the most recent college transcript lists all
course work that has been taken. Transcripts for course work
in progress should also be requested
in advance to ensure prompt receipt at the conclusion of the term,
and must be received before your course scheduling date. Applicants
with fewer than 30 credits completed are also required to submit
official SAT I results and complete secondary school transcripts.
It is the applicant's responsibility to make certain that all
required documents are forwarded to the Office of Admissions. Incomplete
applications or those improperly filed are subject to cancellation.
Applying to the Honors College
Students interested in the Honors College must complete the
Honors College Application
in addition to the TU Application for Undergraduate Admission.
Please mail the Honors College Application to: The Honors College, Towson
University, Cook Library, Room 524, 8000 York Road, Towson, MD 21252-0001.
If You Previously Attended Towson University
If you previously attended as a degree candidate (either full-
or part-time), do not fill out this application. Please call
the Office of the Registrar at 410-704-2007 for a re-enrollment form.
If you previously attended TU as a non-degree student, you may
apply as a transfer student into the full- or part-time degree program
by submitting this application. If you have earned 30 or more credits,
you will be subject to the general admission requirements for transfer
students. If you have earned fewer than 30 credits, however, you must
also make arrangements for the Office of Admissions to receive all
secondary school records such as high school transcripts and SAT I scores,
in addition to official transcripts from all previously attended institutions.
If You Previously Earned a Bachelor's Degree
Students who have earned a bachelor's degree should not file this
application for degree-seeking status. Click
here to access the Second Bachelor's Degree application information.
Transcripts from Schools Outside the United States
The Office of Admissions requires that applicants who have attended institutions
outside the United States submit an evaluation of their transcripts from
the World Education Service
(www.wes.org).
If You are Applying with a GED
GED (General Equivalency Diploma) recipients are subject to SAT I minimums
and must present a partial high school transcript to be considered for admission.
GED recipients without these credentials are referred for placement testing
before an admissions decision is made.
Credit for Prior Learning
The Office of the Registrar sponsors a Credit for Prior Learning Program
through which a student may receive up to 45 units for what has been learned
through non-college studies. Participating departments offer units through
the following formats: standardized tests, ACE-evaluated instruction, portfolio
review, or military courses or experience. Some College Level Examination
Program (CLEP) tests are also accepted. Please call 410-704-2471 for more
information.
