The Technical College of the Lowcountry is an Open Enrollment institution, which means that as long as you are a legal citizen of the United States and have a High School Diploma, GED, or are able to demonstrate that you have the "Ability to Learn" through the college's Placement test, then you can enroll. All applications will be considered.

Admissions Procedures

There is not a fee or charge for this application (effective 11/01/2010).

Enrolling is Easy

To get started:

  1. Apply online or at any TCL campus.
  2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form (FAFSA). See Financial Aid information below.
  3. Schedule the COMPASS or ASSET placement test with the Testing Center. Practice tests are available online at: http://www.tcl.edu/admissions/placement-testing. SAT and ACT scores are optional, but are not required.
  4. Submit official (must be in a sealed envelope; do not break the seal, please do not open the envelope) transcripts from all high schools, colleges and universities previously attended based upon program requirements (if not certain, feel free to contact Admissions).
  5. Schedule an appointment with your advisor for advisement and to register for your classes.
  6. Pay tuition and fees through the Cashier Office (843.525.8355).

Please be sure to submit all necessary documents so your application can be processed quickly. The completed application is confidential.

The Technical College of the Lowcountry requires the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for applicants who wish to receive some form of need-based financial aid, including the South Carolina Lottery Tuition Assistance. By completing the FAFSA, a student applies for federal, state, and institutional aid. The FAFSA may be obtained from the Technical College of the Lowcountry Financial Assistance Office, or online at http://www.fafsa.gov. Apply early! Please be sure to list TCL's school code (009910) on the FAFSA.

Students need the following items when applying for financial aid:

  • Student's most recent 1040 federal income tax forms
  • Most recent W-2 tax form
  • Leave and earnings statement (military dependents)
  • Information on child support payments received
  • Social Security benefits information
  • Separation or divorce decrees
  • Proof of other family members in household attending college (i.e. registrar's certificate of attendance)
