Instructions on Applying for Admission to the M.A. Degree Program (Domestic)

In submitting an application, a statement of interest is required explaining your background and interest in pursuing the M.A. degree in Latin American Studies. Also required are a resume, three letters of recommendation preferably from professors familiar with your academic work, two official copies of transcripts from all higher education institutions previously attended, a copy of your GRE scores, a writing sample in English of 10-20 pages, and an application fee of $35 paid via secure server. A student with less than 3.0 g.p.a. may be admitted for one semester on probationary status at the discretion of the departmental Graduate Committee.
The Center of Latin American Studies (funded by the U.S. Department of Education) awards Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships to KU students pursuing graduate studies on Latin America (for the academic year and for summer intensive language study). All applicants for admission to the M.A. program are automatically considered for the academic year award. The Center may also nominate you for other Graduate School fellowships. In order to be considered for these fellowships please be sure your application materials arrive at the Center by mid-January.
