Applying to Washington & Jefferson College
Applying to Washington & Jefferson College is simple. To begin the process, you need to complete Part 1 of a two-part application. The Office of Admission will send you Part 2 once Part 1 is received. To finalize your application, you must complete and return Part 2, along with the following:

  • a $25 non-refundable application fee
  • an official high school transcript
  • official SAT I or ACT scores
    (You should take the tests by December, but no later than February. Score reports should be sent to W&J. The SAT code for W&J is 2967. The ACT code for W&J is 3746.)
  • a 250-500 word Personal Statement
  • a School Report to be completed by your guidance/college counselor
  • a Teacher Evaluation
  • TOEFL scores if you are an international student whose native language is not English and your SAT verbal score is less than 500

Once all materials are received, your application will be read. In addition, please be sure that your full name and Social Security number appear at the top of all forms and documents. There are three application plans. Definitions and deadlines are as follows:

Early Decision

If W&J is your first choice for college, the Early Decision Plan is for you. Please follow the instructions under "Applying to Washington & Jefferson College" and submit a completed application, along with the Early Decision Request Form (included in the Part 2 application packet), by November 1. Part 2 must be filed by November 15. You will be notified by December 1, If accepted under the Early Decision Plan, you agree to withdraw all applications to other colleges.

Early Action

Unlike Early Decision, the Early Action Plan is non-binding and permits you to submit a completed application and to be notified prior to the Regular Decision deadline. Please follow the instructions under "Applying to Washington & Jefferson College" and submit a completed application by January 15. You will be notified by February 15. For priority consideration for merit-based scholarships, you must submit your application for admission by January 15.

Regular Decision

Please follow the instructions under "Applying to Washington & Jefferson College" and submit a completed application by March 1. You will be notified by April 1.

Early Admission

If you're a high school junior with high academic credentials and want to enter college early, our Early Admission Plan is for you. Acceptance is based on your academic and social maturity and requires:

  • the written approval of your parents
  • the written recommendation of your high school principal
  • a personal interview with a member of our Admission staff

(Note: If accepted for Early Admission, it is your responsibility to secure a high school diploma upon completion of your first year of college.)

Deposits

If offered admission, you must submit a non-refundable $200 deposit by May 1 (Candidates' Reply Date) or December 18 for Early Decision. The deposit is credited to the first-term billing and will reserve your place in the freshman class, as well as a place in campus housing.

International Students

Washington & Jefferson College welcomes applications from international students. You must successfully complete secondary school requirements. Please follow the instructions under "Applying to Washington & Jefferson College" and submit a completed application, along with an official transcript in English, and a $25 non-refundable fee in U.S. currency.

Deferred Admission

If you would like to defer your admission to pursue non-academic experiences, such as employment, social service, or travel, you may secure deferred admission to W&J. The regular application procedure should be followed. Upon notification of acceptance, you must submit the advance deposit of $200 and the "Admission Reply Form" (which comes with the letter of acceptance) indicating a preference for deferred admission.

Transfer, Returning, and Special Students

Candidates interested in transferring from another school, returning to W&J, or taking a course as a non-degree seeking student must contact the Office of Admission at (724) 223-6025 or
(888) W-AND-JAY to request application materials.
